Some spells have the Ritual tag, meaning they can be cast following the normal rules for spellcasting, or as a ritual.
The ritual version of a spell takes 10 minutes longer to cast than normal and doesn't expend a spell slot, but the caster must have the spell prepared or otherwise available and must have a feature that grants the ability to cast spells as rituals.
A spell cast as a ritual can't be cast in any other way; for example, if a spell requires a Bonus Action to cast, it can't be cast as a ritual.
