Create a D&D 5e character online: choose a class, origin, abilities, equipment and spells. Save your progress in Onyx and review the character sheet.
Create a D&D 5e character by choosing an origin, class, abilities, proficiencies, equipment and spells. The builder saves progress in your browser.
Use it for a new hero, a character starting above level one, or a check of the choices needed before your first session.
Ask your DM which rules edition, books, optional rules and starting level the table uses. Origins and some class features differ between editions. For a first game, level one and a short character concept keep the choices manageable: decide who your hero was before adventuring and what they want.
Your class determines your main combat options, spell access and level progression. Start with the role you want to play, then compare classes. Race and background add traits and proficiencies. Check those choices together: the same proficiency does not automatically mean a doubled bonus.

Agree with your DM on an ability generation method. Check which abilities your class uses, and distinguish an ability score from its modifier. Review skills, saving throws, languages and tools. The number of prepared or known spells can depend on your class, level and abilities.
Check weapon and armor proficiencies before selecting equipment. For each spell, read casting time, range, components, duration and concentration requirements as well as its name and level. Cantrips and spells that consume slots work differently, and preparation rules depend on your class.
Check hit points, armor class, speed, attack bonuses and saving throws. Note your actions, bonus actions and reactions, plus when resources recover. Export a copy before changing devices: local saves belong to the browser, while synchronization requires an account.
